Wiradjuri and Gomeroi guard Will 'Davo' Hickey and Wonnarua/Birri Gubba guard Biwali Bayles have both made their NBA Summer League debuts in Las Vegas, marking a significant step forward for Indigenous basketball talent on the international stage.

Hickey suited up for the Chicago Bulls on July 12 against the Toronto Raptors.

The 26-year-old made the most of his five-minute appearance, finishing with 4 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

He was perfect from the free throw line, going 4-4, and pulled in two offensive boards in a performance that reflected the same grit and effort he brought to the Illawarra Hawks during their 2025 NBL championship run.

While his time on court was brief, Hickey said he was focused on staying ready.

"I'm going to be real - a lot of people didn't expect me to make it out the NBL let alone the Summer League," he said.

"I'm just happy to be here. If my time comes, it comes… I'll always be ready."

Joining him in Las Vegas is 22-year-old Biwali Bayles, suiting up for the New York Knicks.

Bayles made his debut against the Detroit Pistons, playing three minutes and recording a block.

He followed it up with another appearance against the Boston Celtics, where he finished with 3 points, 1 assist and 1 steal in another three-minute stint.

Bayles said he's grateful for the opportunity and determined to make the most of it.

"It's something I've dreamed of - being here… and I'm definitely grateful for it," he said.

"No matter what time I get I'll go out there and give 100% no matter what.

"I'm just trying to show what I can do with the little time I've got."

While the pair have seen small minutes on the court, both remain part of Summer League rosters.

Bayles is expected to feature again when the Knicks face the Brooklyn Nets, while Hickey will look for another opportunity with the Bulls in their remaining games.

Their presence in Las Vegas marks a rare moment for two Indigenous players to appear in the NBA Summer League at the same time.
