The Kakadu Program in Jabiru
The Kakadu Program is based in Jabiru and is a residential, experiential learning program delivered across Kakadu, Katherine and Darwin. It provides young people with structured educational, cultural, and personal development experiences, supported by teaching staff, coaches, outdoor education personnel, and trainees.
Jabiru is a small township located in the heart of Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory. Originally established in the early 1980s to support the Ranger Uranium Mine, Jabiru has evolved into the main service hub for the region.
Jabiru is also a gateway for visitors exploring Kakadu’s cultural and natural attractions, combining a close-knit community lifestyle with unique access to one of Australia’s most significant natural environments.
The Role
In 2021 the school commenced a partnered initiative with Traditional Owners to provided middle school students with extended, residential program across the Northern Territory, broadening students’ experiences beyond the conventional routines of family and school life. So too their connection to country.
Based in the township of Jabiru, the Kakadu Program Teachers and Specialists are residential educators who support the School’s Kakadu Program in the Northern Territory through the development and delivery of innovative, place-based learning experiences. This includes outdoor education and activities such as cultural immersion experiences, guided walks, overnight campouts, community activities, and partnership with the local school, all designed to foster connection, resilience, intercultural understanding, and experiential learning.
Kakadu Program Teachers/Specialists are required to work to the needs of the students as required in a dynamic working environment. Accommodation and meals onsite are provided. Opportunities for travel and lifestyle are available, around the requirements of the role.
