Wiradjuri and Gomeroi man Will 'Davo' Hickey is set to suit up for the Chicago Bulls in the 2025 NBA Summer League.

The 26-year-old guard joins the Bulls after a standout season with the Illawarra Hawks where he averaged 10.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game across the NBL25 season.

Hickey was instrumental in Illawarra's championship win, finishing the Grand Final decider with 21 points, 10 boards and eight assists.

His move to the Bulls also reunites him with former Hawks teammate Lachlan Olbrich, who was drafted by Chicago with pick 55 in this year's NBA Draft.

Hickey's long-time mentor and friend, Uncle Ricky Baldwin, said the opportunity could open the door for national selection.

"I think he'll destroy in the Summer League because he's been playing professional ball already," Uncle Ricky said.

"A lot of American college kids haven't played the level he has.

"I said to him 'this is huge, you can get on the radar for the next Olympics now.'"

Hickey's journey to the top tier of Australian basketball began on a development contract after stints with United and South East Melbourne Phoenix, where he managed just nine games.

After years balancing the NBL1 grind, he found his place at Wollongong, breaking through with a career-best finals campaign.

He scored 22 points in game four of the Grand Final series and was handed the Finals MVP trophy by Matthew Dellavedova, despite the veteran being named the official winner.

Following the Hawks' historic title win, Hickey said he hoped his story would inspire others.

"I've believed in myself my whole life," he said.

"Nobody's believed in me, right? So why not come out here and instil that belief into us, and the fans and Illawarra."
